1. (a-b)* [(a-c)/(b+d)] (1)

=>

[a(b+d)-b(a-c)]/(b+d) (2)

How do I get from step 1 to step 2?

You can't - they're not the same.

(1) expanded has a^2 in the numerator. (2) expanded does not.

You want to post the original question with any working you've done - I presume that is just part of it.

This is something I've got from my lecture slide. That's the complete deal. Guess its wrong then?
