Am I the only person who feels like this ?

basically when I'm in a shop/store and I go to the counter tills to pay, I feel very awkward and don't know where to look when standing around the till register. I feel more anxious when giving the money and waiting for them to open the till to give me my change, I feel that they think I am wanting to rob it if I look at it, and I often feel very shaky and red faced standing near the tills.

this is particular bad when in a small shop such as a newsagents, especially when there is only 1 shop keeper in the shop and I'm stood right next to the till when they open it to take my money and give me my change.

I also now try to avoid certain shops due to this problem

I would never ever steal and definitely never steal from a shop, it's probably because it happens because of utterly worthless scum that do steal that makes me feel awkward maybe in that they may think I could rob them (or anybody)

    anybody else like this ?

As someone who's worked in retail for the past 8 years, I can honestly tell you that people who work in shops could not care less about you. They see you, say hi to you, help you with your purchases, and the second you turn around and leave they've forgotten all about you. You're just another face among hundreds each single day. Whatever you think they might be thinking of you, they're not. It's all in your head. They just want to get on with their day so they can get paid.

I'm the opposite. When I try to get shoved into self service, I force my way back into cashier lanes. I absolutely hate trying to ring my stuff up and never fail to get the wait for an attendant error over nothing. I scan, it tells me to wait... I've walked out without my stuff rather than waiting around.
