Help! I receive a dividend annually from a family business, do I have to let the Student Loan Repayments know or will they know from HMRC anyway? And if I do, what information do I give them? It suddenly occurred to me that it counts as income! By the way, I still won't hit the threshold to repay anything even with this dividend and working income.

Load repayment comes out of your working wages, so after you hit the 21K threshold you begin to have a percent deducted...So I am not sure how a dividend would affect that, it is income, but not directly from work :/

    It says on this site:

    Other income
If you pay tax through self assessment HMRC will also include unearned income, for example, interest on stocks, shares or savings, if it’s more than £2,000 a year.
Going from that I would say that means as long as you've told HMRC, they should tell the SLC. But if you want to be extra sure, give them a call to check and make a note of the person who advises you, when and what number you called, and what they said.

When you submit your SA100, HMRC will calculate your tax liability, and any student loan repayments. When you pay HMRC, they will pass on the appropriate amount to SLC.
