Is saying 'take care' instead of or after 'goodbye' a way of demonstrating affection or is it patronising/dismissive?

Under what circumstances would you say 'take care' and to whom?

I always used to do this until someone specifically told me to stop since it doesn't suit my personality and I should just get comfortable with being cold because that is what I am.

I tend to never say goodbye to people, I find it too final. I say something like "take care" or "travel safe" or "see you soon"

I personally prefer someone ending a conversation with "take care" instead of "goodbye". Maybe I'm just a bit old fashioned on that front
