If one studies a joint honours degree, would it hinder one's chances of getting into an MA in one of those specific subjects? For example, I'm applying for Philosophy and politics dual honours (both subjects interest me and I'm undecided as to which one I want to specialise in), would a degree in both subjects reduce my chances of a successful post-grad app for an MA in Philosophy for example?

Also, how much does university status matter when applying for MA degrees? Would one with a degree from an ex-poly but who has gained a 1st in his/her degree have a chance at higher universities, or does someone who's completed their bachelors at a more reputable institution automatically have a better chance.

    Thanks for reading.

Neither of those are going to be a significant problem when applying for MAs

It's a 'no' to answer all of your questions. Concentrate on the undergraduate course when you get there and maybe start looking at postgrads in a couple of years. Good luck!

To echo what others have said you shouldn't have any problems!

Joint Honours is generally looked at with equal standing to single even when applying to one of the subjects at MA level.

Wow I really hope this is the case, would give me more options not less (whole point of choosing joint is I like both subjects but am unsure as to which one I want to specialise in, thus chose both to get a better idea).
