    I accidentally broke my CD drive while it was open and it won't close. I think I need a new one. Could anyone help me, as i'm a computer novice.
    I know that it uses an IDE connector, but that's it. Sorry if this is in the wrong sub-forum but i'm getting no replies. Thanks.

    CD-ROM drives can be had for around £10. But while you are at it, you might as well get a CD-RW drive as you can get them for under £20.

    Er....free? :confused:

    When you buy it, you can install it yourself in like 10 minutes. You would need to open up your PC case though.

    Some of these sites are good or you can buy from a local store at a fairly low price in any case, CDRW is certainly worth going for.

    Hope this helps, and installation is quite simple. A matter of removing the old one, plugging the PSU Molex and IDE cables in and off you go. Remember to make sure the jumper is set the same on the back as your old CD drive (either Master or Slave)

    Gosh.. sounds to me like you've buggered up yer CD Drive.

    What you could do is..

    Go into My Computer, find the "C://" part and right click it, select "Eject" .. if you've buggered it then nothing will happen.

    Have you tried pushing it in (gently) whilst the computer is on?

    Ah well! If it's broken firstly buy a new one, then;

    open up your PC > Unscrew old CDROM > Unplug IDE Cables > Put new CDROM in > Attach cables in exactly the same place > Screw In > Put case back on! > Power up > Insert software CD > bingo!

    Hope this helps, although it's pretty general and random!
