    For Question 6, why does the solution show V to be a negative number in its workings out? does negative V apply for all questions that talk of an "elevation above ground"?

    It just matters which direction you take to be positive. here they've taken up as the positive direction. so acceleration due to gravity, the final velocity, and the total displacement (since it's 10m ABOVE the ground) are all going to be negative as they are all acting downards, and they've taken upwards to be positive. It doesn't matter which direction you take as positive as long as you're consistent.
