Any degree from Cambridge will hold significant value to an employer, it more so depends on what you want to do in the future.

There you go. In general employers rate degree classification and other attributes more highly than where you study. So aiming for a 2:1 or higher is very important.

@Doonesbury has some interesting stats detailing what employers actually value most when recruiting. My advice is to choose the degree you will ENJOY studying whilst remaining a little pragmatic in relation to future employment opportunities.

Why do you want to study AMES (ignoring the "brand" of the university). What are you considering studying at other universities? What are your A-level (or equivalent) subjects?

Well yes, for most jobs the "from Cambridge" bit is the least relevant part...

While job prospects are an important consideration... if you are looking to study AMES, it would be because you have an great academic interest in that field... Not an useless degree... has great academic value.

Hi,I am a prospective AMES student and applying for Japanese Studies at other universities. Apart from the shock at doing such a niche degree and my background wouldn't suggest I would do this degree either, people's first question is what does that degree do for you?Firstly. knowing the incredibly complex language of one of the top 5 economies in the world has its job opportunities in corporate translation and diplomacy.Otherwise, I love the academic study of a culture that developed almost completely separately to our own and would like to do further study in the area and potentially research Japanese history.Thirdly, it has the value of a standard arts degree with the skills of living abroad for a year AS WELL AS knowing a language to 'near-native fluency' This is also part of the larger debate about the value of education outside employment. Knowledge, to me, is invaluable and will find a use in the world. Studying for employment is soulless.
