# HELP buffer exam question watch

1. Q1 .Healthy blood at a ph of 7.40 has a HCO3- h2C03 ratio of 20:1 . A patient is admitted to the hospital . the patients blood ph is measured as 7.20.Calculate the HCO3- H2c03 ratio in the patients blood.

I also do not understand why the Ka value would be the same , why is this the case ?

the ka value from ph 7.40 which is 7.96 x 10-6 is then used again to work out the ratio for the patient with ph 7.20. i dont understand why you can use that ka value to find the ratio of patient blood at 7.20. i had already worked out the ka value using the info from the halthy patient.sorry if this confusing .

Ka is a constant. It never changes, unless you change the temperature.
