So I'm from new zealand, finished school last year and this year took a year off where i worked at a summer camp in america. working at the camp was one of the best experiences of my life and I made so many great friends and good memories. I'm now feeling ready to start uni but also occasionally questioning my motivations (just to make parents happy, socially obligated, feel left out, want to move out of home). I also really want to be at camp most of the time but at the same time not sure about giving up a whole year for the two months of camp and going into a hall where I'm 20 and everyone else is 18. Any advice on my situation would be appreciated

    Hi,
It sounds like the camp was a really positive experience for you in many ways. If you feel ready to start uni, then I say go for it! Though I appreciate and understand you questioning your motivations. I would personally suggest that you write down the reasons why you want to go to uni (including those that are related to making your parents happy etc). It's certainly a tough situation to deal with! Like you say, being in a camp where you are 20 and everyone else is 18 may be difficult, but then again it would likely be a similar situation if you went to uni too.

One thing that I like to do when I am stuck between two options is to flip a coin, because in a moment when the coin is up in the air, you know which one you want it to land on!

    I wish you the best!

Camp is only for the summer, right? There's enough time off between finishing one year of uni and starting another to do camp inbetween, if that's what you're worrying about. Also there's barely any difference between being 18 and being 20, especially at uni.
