I messaged a friend with something like 'hey you OK?' They replied 'Hiyaa yeah thanks you??' I was wondering if I should tell them that I am depressed or not I need someone to talk too.

If they are a close friend that you trust, it would be good to confide in them. Keeping things bottled up isn't the right thing to do.

If they are a good friend who you trust then sure. You can say you aren't feeling so great and see how they react and use that to decide how much to tell them.
If you ever need to talk about anything you can also email/ call samaritans or use talkig services on sites like childline or sane.org (depending on your age).
You might also like to look into getting some counselling. Most schools/ colleges/ unis will have a service students can use for free.

Yes, of course. Just say I'm not feeling that great and if they are a good friend, they'll give you a good reply.
