Hi, just a few questions for those who are studying/have studied towards a degree in Mech Eng...

What career have you gone on to pursue (or aim to pursue)?

Did you choose BEng or MEng?

I'm 100% set on studying Mechanical Engineering, however I'm just a little curious as I've heard it's a very versatile degree in terms of career progression.

Do you mean within engineering specifically, or more generally, i.e. whether we opted to pursue engineering or another career?

MEng, mainly because many companies prefer applicants with MEng degrees.

Either a specific job within engineering, if you have one in mind... or whether you chose to pursue something outside of engineering.

I'm in the 4th year of my MEng in aero (which is basically a subset of mechanical), aiming to go into Consulting

Got applications in at PA, Bain, Newton Europe & Deloitte at the moment. Got some engineering fall backs as well at Rolls Royce, BAE, Lockheed Martin & FNC

Sounds interesting, aero definitely appeals to me. If I specialise in anything I think I'll choose that. Best of luck!

Cheers! Aero is cool, definitely harder than straight mechanical though.

I went into engineering. First job was in continuous improvement (that is, trying to improve engineering and manufacturing processes to reduce defects/waste so that you are a more efficient organisation). You'll find that engineering careers themselves are extremely broad - not just in terms of disciplines, but what you can do with each discipline.

Okay, sounds interesting! Yeah it's good just to hear the range of jobs you could expect someone with mech eng to go into.
