Good luck to you all with interviews and those awaiting to hear from them!

Here are some general tips on interviews and why Leeds in particular!

    Keep your answer concise.

Stick to 3 to 4 points

Ensure you are actually answering the question and not your own question

    Bring out your personality

Use genuine examples, this will engage the interviewer

    You will be memorable

Maintain professional manner, but don’t be overly serious!

    Appear confident

    Use STARR

Situation: What was the scene? Give some background

Task: What was your role in this situation?

Action: How did you do respond?

Result: What happened in the end?

Reflect: What did you gain from this experience?

    Finally, why Leeds?

“Students without Borders”: MBChB students can study languages as part of the “Students without Borders” programme, so they are fluent enough to work as junior doctors in French- or Spanish-speaking countries after graduation.

Patient Care Community: This contributes to teaching, learning and assessment, giving our students invaluable insight into the experience of people with a medical condition or disability, and their carers.

Early Clinical Exposure: The diversity of the region and strong partnerships with the major Leeds teaching hospitals, local acute and regional general hospitals and general practice mean they offer a wide range of placements.

Technology Enhanced Learning: Technology is embedded in the MBChB course and they continue to invest and innovate

    MMI Skills Tested

Self-Evaluation: Being aware of your strengths and weaknesses is an important asset of being a successful medical student

Problem Solving: Be able to think quickly and come to a possible solution with limited resources is something doctors face on a daily basis

Ethical Reasoning: Communicate ideas well, formulate arguments and counter-arguments in an ethically justifiable manner

Communication Skills: Communicate ideas well, formulate arguments and counter-arguments in an ethically justifiable manner
