I am currently studying at Uni for my first year and have asked to drop a day of work so i now work a 40 hour week instead of 50.

Is there any form of funding my employer can claim to employ an extra member of staff to cover me for that one day? I know there was the workforce development fund, but that doesn't cover my subject.

But the employer is now paying you less, because you're working less. So the "extra funding" is the wages that you're now not getting, as they can be used to pay the new person.
