So I've just started my Art GCSE course and my sketchbook is a mess. My current artwork is okay but is gradually improving. Do you have any tips on how to make Art books look prettier? Will you get marked on your work at the beginning or ending after progress?

Layout your pages carefully, so where the writing will go and images and postcards etc. Make sure you are creative so add pockets or design something or buy embembellishments.

    TOP TIP- DON'T PANIC!
Firstly think about the layout and how you present your work, it can make a big difference and enhance your drawings! Try using watercolour wash backgrounds, and darken parts of the page using coffee (or a tea bag!) or you could use masking tape and acrylic paint to create an interesting background effect. You could also create more interesting titles by cutting letters with different fonts out of an old magazine or newspaper. Try not to worry about making mistakes- it's part of being an artist! You can also get more marks by saying what didn't work in your drawings, and how you went on to improve it. Another good way to boost marks is to take lots of your own photography. You can then use a computer to add different effects to your photos, which is all part of developing your ideas and saying why you like it and how it links to your theme.

Your work normally gets graded officially at the very end of the project- so don't panic at this stage!

    Hope this helps Good luck
