I tried donating blood a couple of weeks ago, but when I got there the doctor felt my arms and couldn't find any veins. His exact words with my left arm were "there's nothing there - it's empty". He could barely feel one in my right arm. So he told me to drink 1.5l the day before and day of my donation, which I'll do next time.
This wasn't surprising to find out, because when I've had blood tests in the past, the nurses have struggled to find a vein. But how bad is it to have small veins?
Is it bad to have tiny veins? watch

maybe they could use a leg vein instead ? they tend to be bigger.
