Sophia, a robot designed to look like Audrey Hepburn, was interviewed about the future of artificial intelligence (AI) by CNBC's Andrew Ross Sorkin at a Future Investment Institute panel in Saudi Arabia on Wednesday, whose dazzling performance inspired the event's hosts to grant Sophia citizenship, a first for a robot.

When Sophia claimed that her only purpose was to "help humans live a better life," Sorkin quickly retorted that while that they may be true humans are concerned about the rise of robots and AI. The Hanson Robotics machine, designed to be witty, use the moment to take a jab at AI doomsayer Elon Musk. "You've been reading too much Elon Musk. And watching too many Hollywood movies.

Don't worry, if you're nice to me, I'll be nice to you. Treat me as a smart input output system," Sophia said.

I can't imagine what they will be like in 50 years...
