What grades in A levels should I get to be equivalent to 31 IB

There's honestly no real equivalency or even rhyme and reason to comparisons between the two, by universities or otherwise.

In general, it depends more on your HL subject grades than anything. Unfortunately IB doesn't suffer the same grade inflation as A-levels do, but the entry criteria for both are inflated year on year anyway.

However many universities will be fairly flexibly about taking IB candidates with lower than stated overall scores, if they have suitable scores in relevant HL subjects. I got into Exeter and Southampton with 31 in IB, for example (and had offers from, at various points for various courses, Manchester, Loughborough, Goldsmiths and SOAS). It's likely to vary depending on the subject being applied to as well however.
