A sensible bill from the right honourable bill. In this time of adversity when our security is at risk, a situation could become deadly in an instant and officers need to be equiped to respond to such situations to the best of their ability. Being unarmed cannot allow for this. A firm aye.

It's an aye from me. Police offers come up against all kinds of situations and need to be able to prevent attacks on their person or other people if necessary. This is a good non-lethal way in which to do it, provided that the officers are properly trained on their use and also know when not to use the taser.

I agree with Section 1 however Section 2 needs work.

So until then, its a Nay from me.

It's a well written bill, but I'm leaning on the side of nay at present. The potential for its misuse is to great and I'm not reassured of safeguards

Whether we take the plunge now or do this gradually the end position is the same with police weaponisation slowly creeping upwards, even if lethal weaponisation is maintained at low levels.

The greatest problem with arming police these days is not the arming itself, it's the way that discharge is treated with massive wasting of resources and police time even in open and shut cases, we have a lack of police wanting to be firearm trained not because they do not wish to be able to be armed if necessary, but because they know there is a long investigation with them being pulled off the streets if they ever have to use the weapon.
