I am doing a level biology exam privately which is costing £400
I don't want to do the practicals as they cost £850.
I contacted Loughborough University and they said they don't need the practical stuff but just my grade.
Does that mean that I can just take the exam and not have to do the practical endorsement as I am applying for a foundation year in computer science.
Or do I have to take the practicals in order to attain the qualification.

If it specifies in the course you don’t need to pass the practical endorsements, then there’s no need. However you must still know about the practicals due to many questions being practical-based

In my school we were told we have to do them and if we missed it had to come back after school to do them as it meant we get a X for that section and can't pass the as/ a level as a whole.

If the university you're applying to doesn't mind then it won't matter that you get an unclassified in the practical endorsement, particularly as you're a private candidate. (Many courses do make passing the practical endorsement a condition of the offer but that tends to be for courses where that subject is a required A level.).

Maybe they meant they only look at your grades (as a requirement), but i think you have to do the practicals to complete your a level and get your grade.

    You don't.

Centres can't offer the exams without also providing the practicals but you can get a grade in the A level without passing the practical skills. However, centres have to prove that they gave candidates every opportunity to complete the practicals and a pass in the practical skills is often a requirement for university courses.
