Why may female political candidates be subjected to 'sexist double standards' ? What does this mean?

Because most of the people with power these days are men. So if a woman tries to make her way to power too, then she's criticized for anything because it goes against the old-fashioned beliefs that women are lesser than men. I guess if society evolved, and we got rid of all the old men in power, and allowed women to empower themselves, the world would be a better place.
Have you ever experienced racism/sexism at uni?
