    I am going to uni next year, and part of me is excited, however on the other hand I am worried as I have social anxiety. I have always thought maybe I'd get over it, but this summer I did a summer course where I knew absolutely no one, and I ended up puking all of my meals (so in the end I just didn't eat), and spending an hour in the toilet both before and after the day. By the end of it I was so happy it was over. And I realised after that all the throwing up and constipation was due to my anxiety (sorry for all the explicit detail). I knew that the people doing the course were nice, and I even managed to make a friend, but that didn't stop me from being so anxious. So my question is, how do I get over this? And in university, do lecturers pick on people? Because whenever a teacher picks on me, the room starts spinning, and that's with people I know, so I don't know how I'll deal in a room full of strangers.

    The way to get over it is to either seek therapy or force yourself in to these situations to train your brain that there's nothing to worry about. Understand that most people will be anxious as all hell when starting uni, and so when everyone settles by then you may have already made some comfortable connections.

    Lecturers in uni actually "pick" on people a lot less, its a lot more independent.

    Anxiety can be crippling but be excited to go to university, as it will be the start of a new chapter in your life. Lecturers don’t pick on people in my course but I can only speak from personal experience. There will be other people there when you start university who will feel similarly to you, so don’t feel isolated; besides, it will be a good time to make some friends. Additionally there should be a good support network in place at the university for new students, events for freshers, and support staff to talk to confidentially with any queries or worries.
