I'm currently on a gap year and have my eye on an A level I would study independently to take both AS and A2 exams in 2018.

It's the final opportunity to take this A level in 2018, so I'd need to learn it all in 7/8 months.

Firstly, is it possible to learn it all in such a short time? Secondly, is it possible to get an A or A*?

Yes it's possible but you need to decided fairly soon - the entry deadline is 21 February at the exam board but some centres stop accepting private candidates at standard fees around Christmas so you need to find somewhere fairly soon.
