Hello, I am strongly considering to study philosophy at St Andrews, can somebody tell me what this faculty is like? As far as I can tell it's one of the best in the country, but I'd like to hear some more.

As well as this, what's the subject/academic freedom like at St Andrews? I have a wide array of academic interests and would certainly like the freedom to branch out into classics, language, literature etc.

Hi - don't know specifically about the department but do know that in the first 2 years there is flexibility to do other subjects, in fact you have to do some other subjects !

each year you have to do 120 credits - in year 1 philosophy has one compulsory 20 credit module and then you have to do at least one other 20 credit module. The remaining up to 80 credits (usually 4 modules) can be in other subjects subject to clashes on the timetable. eg classics, languages, history, geography etc etc etc . The class hours are here https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/media/p...0timetable.pdf to give you some idea
