Applications are open! Does anyone know if a list of locations will be available or do we only get to see that if we get to interview stage?

Thanks

Locations have been posted here http://www.nshcs.hee.nhs.uk/join-programme/nhs-scientist-training-programme/stp-specialisms-by-location

Hi everyone, I'm applying for the STP in Audiology this year. Looking at the applications there are 14 Audiology places this year (locations not disclosed as far as I can see!) Is anyone else interested in Audiology?

Hi, I'm applying for Audiology too, I applied a couple of years ago and got to interviews but didn't get a high enough ranking to get a place, hopefully I'll do better this year!

They've put up the locations: http://www.nshcs.hee.nhs.uk/join-programme/nhs-scientist-training-programme/stp-specialisms-by-location
No CPS places in Manchester this year, looks like I'm not applying unless anything comes up :frown: Might apply for other specialisms though but don't really fancy my chances

Hi, is anyone else going to the Open Day at Nottingham on 26th Jan?

Hi, I should be
Does anyone have any knowledge or experience of applying with a medical degree (MBChB)? Wondering if this would be viewed as a plus or a minus to application, or indeed whether it would count as relevant undergraduate experience.

Cool, have you been to one before? Are you applying for biochem this year?

Hi I want to apply to micro but there aren’t many places so may try biochem  what about you? What is your background in biochemistry?

I went to a open day a couple of weeks ago, was helpful but was more general and not specific to a specialism like this one will be.
So guys, the application is now open. A few little questions:
- Have you already registered to Oriel? Was it easy?
- How are the questions this year?
- How are you studying for the aptitude test? Did you find some useful book?
Thanks everyone for the feedback

So many people with lots of experience  anyone been successful with little/no experience?

I applied with no direct clinical experience. I asked the same question and was told that they realize that getting relevant hospital experience is very difficult and they certainly don't directly penalize candidates who don't have it. That said if you can get any relevant experience it makes writing the personal statement and answering the interview questions easier as you can draw from direct personal experience.

1- Yes I would say it was fairly easy
2- Exactly the same as last year!
3- I googled numerical and logical reasoning and did some practice tests online, nothing specific, I think there's no way you can study for it but you just get more agile by repeating a few times

Provisional interview dates have also been posted in case anyone is interested or unsure about being able to make them http://www.nshcs.hee.nhs.uk/join-programme/nhs-scientist-training-programme/stp-2018-interview-timetable
With the questions on the application, will they be read altogether by the same person? Or do the get split up. Only want to know for introducing certain projects I've done. For example if something I mention in Q2 comes up again in Q4 will I need to fully reintroduce it?
Hey Guys, Can someone help me please. It seem like a very trivial issue but I cannot locate the STP application form for Scotland. I can find the England one no problem but I really am struggling and need to get started.Thank you a lot
Hi everyone!

I'm applying this year and really confused what specialism to apply for. My dream would be to apply for genomics counselling and genomics but with lack of experience i feel it would be a waste of time as doubt i would get very far. I graduated with a Biology degree in 2014 then went on to become a Pharmacy Technician. I am extremely interested in genetics but think if i applied for clinical pharmaceutical science instead i would have a much better chance due to more experience?! Don't know what to do. I know you get to pick 2 specialisms but these are quite opposite so would make my application answers harder.

Any advice?!

Speaking from experience, it's difficult to juggle genetics and PCS; my degree was in Biology and Chemistry with a Masters in Biomecical science (molecular biology project) but all my work experience has been in pharmaceuticals. I tried applying for both together a couple of years ago and didn't get to interview, but focussing on just CPS last year I got to interview as I could focus my application to that without having to use up words on genetics. As you have pharmacy experience it may be easier to focus on that over genetics, but if you can draw in genetics experience from uni then that may be a plus point. CPS also tends to be less competitive too, so given your experience I'd say you'd be better off applying for that over genetics, and if you don't get in then over the next year see if you can get some experience in an NHS genetics lab maybe?

I think the Scotland one opens later in the year!

The same person reads your entire application. Don’t repeat yourself! The applications do get sent to different people to mark, but in their entirety.
Does anyone know whether we will all get the exact same questions in the online tests? Or are they different questions or in a different order maybe?
