What stands out on an application to a veterinary medicine course? I know what the requirements are to get in, but what wows the administrators?

A realistic expectation of the career will go further than you might imagine. A vet is one of those jobs everyone idealises over; playing with cute puppies all day and curing everything you touch. But the reality is very different and recognising this will come across very favourably to an interviewer. Similarly the public health aspect of the profession is greatly underestimated. While you may give an oath to treat animals you are also involved in the protection of human health. Work experience in a lab or abattoir would reflect on this and give you a few more unique points to talk about and mention in your personal statement. Also actually admitting you don't know! If an interviewer asks you a question and you are unsure how to answer it is far better to be honest than attempt to lie your way through. They will know, it is probably their area of speciality! Nobody wants a dishonest vet at the end of the day
