    The results of this infamous thread have been tallied:

    EDIT: Given the flurry of activity in the above thread recently, I have updated the chart accordingly (02/11/2017):

    "Mentioned" seems like a terrible way of doing it, if someone said "Durham is a **** uni for oxbridge rejects", did that go as a point for Durham?

    'Best universities' really just means those with the most research output which are therefore seen as prestigious.

    No not necessarily, Bath isnt a russell group (a group specifically made for research unis) and its more prestigious than half the russell group

    There's a high correlation between how good a uni is and research, obviously better unis will have better research facilities and output.

    Correlation =/= Causation

    Nah removed those when I scanned through it again. Only serious ones were included. London Met was mentioned more than once but I doubt those people were serious so weren't tallied.

    This chart more or less matches with what I think as the best 5 after Oxbridge as well - the three G5 London unis + Durham + Warwick

    Although I would argue the ranking would be Imperial = LSE > UCL > Durham >= Warwick

    Questioning a hypothesis by cherrypicking anomalies just strengthens my point.
