I am applying to study a musical theatre/performing arts degree starting September 2018. During the academic year 2017/18 I am scheduled to take an ATCL level 4 diploma in performing (performance arts) validated by Trinity College London at a self-funded college. I require a full student loan for the BA, however, the SFE website vaguely states that the level 4 diploma counts as higher education so I would not be eligible for funding. I have queried this before and have only received a rather unconvincing ‘you should be alright’. Do you know of any reason why I would have any issues?

    Hi So(Phie),

In terms of funding, Level 4 Diplomas are generally classed as a Further Education qualification and can be funded by the Advanced Learner Loan.

Gaining this qualification would would not affect your eligibility for funding for the Degree course.

    Regards,

    Stuart
