When do PGCE courses start to fill up?

As I didn't even consider what I wanted to do after uni until the beginning of December, and didn't decide I wanted to do a PGCE (secondary, geography) until last night, I think I might be leaving it a little late to apply for anything. Basically, as soon as I get back to Sheffield I'm going to get in touch will all the schools I can get to to try to arrange some kind of work experience (anyone know who it's best to write to? the head?), I've got a load of experience working with kids, but nothing in a school, so I need some.

Also, my dissertation is due in half way through feb, so I definitely won't be able to do anything much application wise before then, I know that there isn't an official latest application date, but realistically I'm not going to get an application to the uni before the middle of march.

Should I change to places I apply to to ones which are less likely to be full is basically what I'm wondering.

At the moment I'm thinking along the lines of Sheffield, Bristol, Durham, etc, but I don't want to reduce my chances of getting in anywhere!

Hi there,
If you want to get some work exp contact a local school. I went back to my old secondary school asking for some observation exp for a few days. Also it is good to write some comments on how the teacher goes about teaching, how the lesson is divided up etc. A good tip when writing your personal statement, is to let a secondary school teacher look over your statement. It can prove to useful since they would know what you would need to improve on.

All the best,

Oliver

PGCEs for Primary fill up quickly, though I know someone who decided last minute and got a place at Greenwich uni after getting her degree in MFL at Oxford.
So yeah, the sooner you apply, the better your chances.
