I got a letter in the post today telling me to register to vote. Of course, I'm going to register anyway but at the bottom of the letter it says "If you don't you could be fined £80" in bold letters. I was just wondering why they would fine you. What would the charge be? (I live in the UK if that helps you answer.)

This was voted in a few years ago I believe to try and make a more robust electoral system, I don’t know exactly how it works.

Either way a word of advise is ALWAYS register to vote otherwise it can mess up your credit score as I found out when trying to apply for a mortgage!
