Just wondering summit, as I cant be assed going to the post office.
Would a first class stamp be ok for the following package?
An A4 brown envelope with inside 2 A4 sheets of paper and a paperclip and a cheque?

For future reference, there should be a weight guide on the inside cover of your book of stamps. Now you just have to carry a set of scales around with you, and you're sorted.
Its done on weight, i think over 60grams or something requires something more, i don't think 2 A4 sheets are that heavy, should be fine!

It should be ok, but if you've got some accurate scales handy check it isn't more than 60g.

I wouldn't put a paperclip in - I've heard it screws up the sorting machines (if its made of metal) and then your letter may get shredded (by the machine).

Aren't they supposed to be changing it soon to size of package instead of weight?

I used to work for Royal Mail. I seem to remember there being some problem with paper clips inside envelopes, but nothing that would make the machine shred anything up - they don't have the capacity to shred. At worst, your letter might be a bit delayed (but it won't be the first time that's happened).

last year i got this great litle contraption off the royal mail website, you assemble these bits of cardboard so it makes a type of se-saw thing, and it has litle slots that you put your letters in to see how much they weigh. and it was free. i was very excited by it and had hours of fun but then i had no social life at the time.
