    Is it worth applying for student finance after living in Australia for three years? I'm applying for an undergraduate degree and will be 23 years old when the course starts

    Do you have proof that your time spent in Oz was temporary? - if so you can probably ( I'm not 100% sure- SFE monitor this forum so will give a fully accurate response) get it, otherwise you may be on International fees :sorry:

    Hi KirstyEgerton;

    To apply for funding you.

    • Must be ordinarily resident in the UK for 3 years prior to the first day of the first academic year of the course and
    • be ordinarily resident in the UK on the first day of the first academic year of the course

    Depending on the circumstances you may be eligible to apply for Student Support if you have been outside the EU/EEA on a temporary break. You will be required to provide evidence of your temporary break regardless of the length of time they were temporary absent for.

    What could be classed as a temporary break?
    • Gap Year
    • Holiday
    • Voluntary Work overseas
    • Working for HM Armed Forces
    • Parents working abroad on a temporary contact of employment

    What would not be classed as a temporary break?
    • People who emigrate to another country outside of EEA/Switzerland
    • People who are unable to satisfy SFE that their break was of a temporary nature
    • People who have exercised their right to roam elsewhere in the EU/EEA and will be ordinarily resident in the UK on the first day of their course

    Thanks

    Katie

    I went out on a working visa but was sponsored for another 2 years. Sounds like it's not worth applying. Can an application be put in before applying through UCAS?
