I have mental health issues, and am really struggling with the work load this year (2nd). I am looking at pulling out at xmas and may possibly be unable to submit coursework or take exams. Will I have to pay back this year's grants etc immediately, or will it still be tagged on to the rest of the payments as usual please?

    Hi Tim_1963,

Your university will advise Student Finance that you have either withdrawn or suspended your studies.

If you suspend your studies, your payments will stop, we will calculate your entitlement in a pro rata basis and any overpayments will be deducted from your future support on your resumption.

If you suspend your studies due to health reasons, we can award you up to 60 days extra funding. In order to automatically award 60 days additional support a student must have suspended due to illness, your university must notify us of this in the suspension notification.

If you withdraw from the course then we will calculate your entitlement for the length of time you have actually been in attendance.

The amount you are entitled to for that period, you will not be eligible to repay until the end of that tax year and only then, when you are earning over the threshold.

Any grant or loan entitlement that has been overpaid, following the reassessment, is repayable immediately.

You will receive a letter advising you of this, with a telephone number to call and make arrangements and you can discuss how you are going to pay this back.

    Thanks Rona
