Never understood it, like proper friends not just people you talk to.

say you move for work or something, large majority of people i know are friends mostly with people they met whilst at school.

Maybe go out more and make more of an effort to talk to people? It can be difficult, especially if you’re shy or anxious. Could practice in a mirror also?
What sort of friends are you wanting to make? Best to find out earlier on about what kinds of values, beliefs and ethics they have to avoid problems in the future.

I moved to Germany. I moved with my partner but I have friends outside of him! I have friends from my work and I'm also friends with some of his colleagues (I'm usually invited to department social events and hang out with them without him lol). I also joined a climbing gym so I made some friends there. I wish I had the time to find a language exchange cos I think that would be a good way to meet people - or to go to some expat events in the city.
