Take the UK Vi one The tests are the same, just the test centre is considered secure in the way its carried out for visa purposes.

    .

How is my IELTS test different if I take it for UK visa purposes?

UK visa applicants must ensure that they register for an 'IELTS for UKVI' test date at one of the UKVI locations.

The IELTS test for UK visa purposes is designed to meet certain administrative requirements that are specific to UK Visas and Immigration. There are no differences in the test format or questions. The actual test taken is the same – same content, examiners, format, level of difficulty, scoring and so on.

Test Report Forms, however, will be slightly different in order to show that test takers have taken the test at an IELTS UK visa session.

Thing is, I have a British passport (but am still considered to be an international student cause I've never resided in the UK), so as far as I can tell I don't need any Visa arrangements since I can go to the country at my own will whenever I please. Should I still take the IELTS UKVI over the regular one?

And will taking the UKVI one result in any sort of unsuspecting hurdles due to the nature of the test and its relationship with visa and immigration conflicting with my citizenship?

You wont need a visa if you have a UK passport.

You will need to prove you meet the English level required by the university, which will be detailed on their website or talk to their international team. Ielts isnt the only way to prove your level of English., but its one of the most common. The UK Vi version just has greater assurance it was taken at a secure centre.
