I'm currently in my second year of university and don't like my course or living arrangements at all I am at university 6 hours from home and am considering dropping out. I need some advice on dropping out/ transferring (and have some questions)?

    1) will I be able to get new funding to start another university in 2018?
    2) if not is there any advice on how to financially fund first year? (maintenance/ tuition)
    3) what happens to fees if i transfer midway through a year?

    thank you in advance

    1. You get funding for degree length and one gift year for change of minds. Restart/ resits. You have used 2 years, so funding available would only be for degree length -1 i.e the fee payments wouldnt start until year 2 and you would have to find the money yourself.

    2. Your alternatives are to transfer year 1 credits or do a compelling personal reasons claim on the basis you left uni (medical evidence needed) with a medical reason i,e anxiety an depression. You will get maintenance if you get it already. If you go for CPR then you need evidence so manage the situation to ensure you have what they want. Its a gamble, but nothing to lose.

    3. I dont believe they let you transfer midway. Contact a uni and ask, then you will ave t contact sfe to see how fees are resolved. Im not aware of this happening.

    Hi,

Just to add to what has been said as the previous advice is good. As I am presuming that you are a student at University of Reading, the best thing that you can do is go to your tutor and also to Carrington Building as that is where our student support services are based and they will be able to help you.

Transfers are not unheard of; obviously, we would love for you to stay here but the situation has to be right for you.

For transfers, they do not generally occur halfway through the year, the receiving institution normally wants you to start at the beginning of the year, usually in September. However, this is liable to change per university and you would only be able to find this out by asking their admissions department.

I hope that this helps, if you have any other questions, please do ask!
