I’m currently on a year abroad for a joint honours languages degree and I’m hating it so much that it’s making my mental health go right down the drain. My uni have said my only option to stay on this specific degree is to switch after xmas and spend 7 months in France at once which would mean I’m away from home for 10 months - since it’s being away from Home that’s the problem, I’m kind of reluctant to do that. What I wanted to ask is, does anyone know of people who have deferred an honours year due to mental health reasons? I could make this out until Xmas, satisfying the three month requirement for one language, and pull out in time to retain my funding for another year. Does anyone think this would be feasible at my university (Glasgow)? I’m in touch with the mental health team and they know somethings wrong, so if anyone has any similar stories about deferring honours then I’d be really interested in hearing them.

I deferred on medical grounds and my university were very supportive. Mental health is a recognised problem in universities and therefore it shouldn’t be an issue at all, just expect them to ask you for some evidence to go alongside your claim for mitigation.
