I wanted to do Psychology but the only thing that comes up close to just Psychology is Applied Psychology. I'm confused as to if I should apply or not. 👀

It will be helpful if someone could get back to me asap.

    Thanks ✌🏽

So I haven't done the specific course at Brighton, but from a quick look: The most important thing if you want to go on to do further psychology afterwards is that the course confers eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC), which this course does - that means it follows the recommended BPS curriculum for psychology, so there are certain things which will be covered to some degree in all courses.

Applied psychology basically is as it sounds: the application of psychology to 'real life' issues. So they can be more 'practical' issues (e.g. psychology in education, work, drug addiction, all sorts, rather than 'purely' theoretical). From a look at the potential modules for the Brighton course - especially the third year modules - they sound really interesting:

    • Forensic Psychology
    • Cyberpsychology
    • Psychology, Mental Health and the Environment
    • Critical Community Psychology
    • Critical Addiction Studies
    • Developing a Therapeutic Relationship
    • Mental Disorder and Anthropology
    • Sexualities
    • One module chosen from School of Applied Social Science Undergraduate Programme

By the looks of it there is also the opportunity for a voluntary work placement.

It looks like a good course to me, as long as the modules interest you. But it fits GBC status for psychology, so is the 'same' as straight Psychology in that sense.
