I’m currently in my second year studying chemistry, but I want to switch to English & Sociology next September for various reasons.

How does this work in terms of student finance? Can I still get loans for tuition fees and maintenance loans for the duration of the 3 year English & Sociology course?

You are allowed funding for a degree plus one gift year.

    Denoted as Degree +1

If you have used two years and wish to restart a degree , then your student funding will be Degree -1 having deducted the two years you have used.

This will mean they will not fund the first years tuition fees, but yes to maintenance. You have to find the fees yourself.
They would start funding fees from year 2 onwards.

You can look into making a compelling personal reasons claim if you had some sort of medical issue or family crisis.
