Zopliclone

I just wondered if anyone on here has been prescribed zopliclone.

The psychiatrist I see has prescribed it to try and help "knock" me into a "proper sleep pattern"

I was on it and found it useful for a while. The only problem was that I was given it for a month when its only supposed to be given for a week. It's very addictive.

Interesting. The psychiatrist who prescribed it to me said it had very few addictive properties, so becoming addictied to it was not a great concern.

Thanks for letting me know how you found it.

EDIT: Just looked it up in my drugs book. It says that it may cause dependence, and it probably increases depending how long you take it for and how strong the dose is. I had to go off the highest dose (7.5 mg) cold turkey and onto something else and it was really hard. I remember lying there and thinking that I really needed some more to sleep. I couldn't sleep without it.

It's not addictive as such, but prolonged use is avoided because of tolerance and withdrawal symptoms.

I've been prescribed the 7.5mg dose. The psych. is going to review it on Tuesday though.

Just make sure you're not on it longer than a week just in case.

ive been given it but have yet to take. what does it actualy do?

Reply 8

When I first started taking it it made me drowsy and helped me sleep rather than suffering from insomnia. Other than that it left a metal taste in my mouth.

Reply 9

straigt away or did it take a few hours?

Reply 10

Yea I have 7.5mg, I usually spilt them in half so they last longer.

It took about half a hour before the metallic taste kicked in with me. That's when I started to feel drowsy. I had the taste in my mouth during the day for a few days but it didn't take long until I was used to it at night.

Makes me sleep in like 20 mins, no metal taste though, no dreams either.

I have it! It doesn't make me sleep but does leave my mouth feeling horrible :frown:

used it for the first time last night, still took me a while to get to sleep (a good 90 minutes after I'd taken it I was still awake, must have fallen off to sleep shortly after that).

My body must just be taking its time with it. Didn't get any metalic taste though (which I hope is the way it stays, I hate that)

Patience.

(But, being an insomniac, you're already familiar with the concept)

I was given a weeks prescription when I was 15, because I was completely nocturnal. I fought it for the first night and ended up feeling a little dazed and confused.. like I was about to start tripping or something.. after that I stopped fighting it and let it do its job and I had no troubles sleeping.

I had zopiclone for a while, it didn't really do much for me at all, but I know other people who've found it's really helped. As others have said, it's not addictive in the same way benzodiazepines are, but if you're on it for a long time you can become dependant on it.

My dad was on Zopiclone for more than a year and had to be detoxed in a neurological hospital because of his severe addiction.
