We met in 5th grade and have been friends ever since. We are both currently sophomores at a community college and I’m getting ready to transfer to a university but she fell a little behind and will be at the community college another 2 years. Lately all I can think about is getting away from her and hoping it will save our friendship. We work together as well so we spend way too much time together and the littlest things she says or does drives me absolutely nuts. I actually really like my job but It’s harder to like it when she’s there because I feel like I can’t interact with my other coworkers as much. She’s very shy and talks so quietly people don’t even know what she’s saying half the time and people constantly bring up how quietly she talks. That’s one of the things that really drives me crazy. I feel awful about but I can’t control these feelings. I have a group of 8 other girl friends that she is not in and I have the time of my life with them and we have so much in common and laugh at everything. I feel that me and my current best friend don’t have much in common anymore but I feel that out of the two of us I am the only one that feels this way, besides her boyfriend I am the only one she spends time with and I know she is going through a hard time right now with anxiety problems so I’m always there for her. Sometimes it just feels like too much though. I don’t want to hurt her feelings but I am also not sure what to do. I’m trying to tough it out until I leave for college because I think things will feel better when we don’t see each other so frequently. Has anyone else had a similar situation? Or is going through one right now?

Do you feel that your friendship is running its course? That can happen, especially when you hang out a lot. Find new things that you can both do? If you're doing the same things over and over again then you won't have new things in common. You are right in that if you were to try and distant yourself that she will get upset, I wouldn't do that if you've been friends for this long. Is it not possible to try and include her into your friendship circle?
