An allotrope is different structural forms of the same element. So isn't carbon technically an allotrope of itself

Think of allotropes as the different ways an element can structurally arrange itself. Diamond and graphite are both carbon, but different allotropes (structural rearrangements) of carbon. Should clear up this confusion.
