    Similar questions have been asked before but in my maths exam I was really struggling, mainly because I was thinking about a family member who had been taken ill recently.

    I wrote “sorry, had bad news about a family member “.

    I’m hoping that I won’t get disqualified. Will I?

    If the said family member is suffering something a lot worse than a cold, I would say you should apply for extenuating circumstances.

    No, you won't be disqualified.

    If there is anything written on a paper that causes an examiner to be concerned for the student (or anyone else), or if there is something offensive then the examiner will report it to the exam board. Most other things are ignored (drawings, comments like "this is hard", or even "I hate maths".

    (14 years examining experience here...)

    I'm going to assume that if a drawing/diagram is required for the question, then you don't ignore it.

    Yep, sorry! Meant things like flowers, Daleks etc. Irrelevant drawings! Also poems (have not had a relevant poem in a response so far).

    I have seen some funny answers that have a picture on
    Eg: a physics question about how long it will take for the ball to come to rest in between two ramps. The answer was, “no there is an elephant in the way.” And drew an elephant on the diagram. 0 marks
