Having looked at some statistics I was quite surprised how many doctors from abroad are recruited. According to the source I found it said 25,000 Indian doctors ,9770 Pakistani, 5000 South African ,4000 Nigerian and 29,000 from European countries. I am interested if the training they had received is some what different and how it compares to being trained in UK.

I realised that the title is written wrong sorry about that.

Doctors from abroad doesn't mean they were trained abroad. Also Indian/Nigerian etc in terms of nationality or heritage? They also have to pass certain tests in order to practice in the UK.

The GMC has a list of medical schools whose qualifications are unacceptable but it's quite a small list.

If you're a doctor who's qualified abroad you still need to pass the PLAB to be able to hold a license to practice and then go through the same training programme as UK graduates in order to specialise and become a consultant.

They should be similar to each other, just different environments. However, i heard that its harder to become an nhs doctor if you graduate abroad than in the uk, so you would probably be trained differently abroad.

The statistic did not reference nationality but where the doctor come from thus meaning where they were trained

If it’s not nationality the person may have come from there at any age and thus trained pretty much anywhere.

That may be the case, but I made my post before you edited the OP to state this.

I heard India trained doctors have a lot more freedom when it comes to clinicals. They have a better hands on experience.

I would imagine docs trained elsewhere might actually be better than ours. I base this on the fact that just about everything our government does is bloody awful. Road maintenance, prisons, NHS, immigration control, tax collection. All full of problems due to a crap government.
