I am a single parent applying for student finance. I was married many years ago and separated nearly 10 years ago. My husband is not father to either of my children. We have never gotten divorced but have started the process a few times but for various reasons not completed it. After returning to college 2years ago i couldn't get housing benefit so got evicted from my home, i have since moved in with my step-mother so am not the only adult on the council tax bill; what evidence can I use to prove that I am separated now? I can't afford to pay a solicitor for an affidavit, what else could I use?

Although you are not the only adult on the council tax bill, could you ask your local council for a letter confirming all adults registered at the address and their relationship to one another? Student finance are idiots with things like this so good luck!

I know it's a bit of an old thread, but you can download a declaration from the internet, then swear it in front of a judge at your local court, and they'll officially sign it for you (take several copies)

Ex Mrs egg did this, it wasn't expensive - about £60 ?
