Most universities don't accept english and maths functional skills so you'd have a better chance if you got the gcses, there's degrees in automative engineering and motorsports technology but you'd need a level 3 related btec or a levels to get in. What is it you want to do as a career?

University isn't really suitable for car restoration, that's more into apprenticeship territory.

You can probably become an F1 team technician after being an apprentice, you would just need to get on the team's apprenticeship program or find out where they recruit from. It's unlikely to be universities as graduates will be involved in designing the car instead.

I would also imagine you don't get paid that much in F1 compared to other automotive technician roles as it's a prestigious job, so people will happily accept a lower pay in exchange for the prestige and other benefits of working in F1.

Do a Google for formula 1 apprenticeships
    e.g.

    http://www.williamsf1.com/pages/careers/whatweoffer
    http://www.redbullracing.com/article/our-roles
    etc...

    Hey,

I'm currently a Robotic Engineering student here at UCLan, and know quite a bit about the courses we offer here, and we definitely offer a course in Motorsports Engineering.

There's also a fantastic site called GradCracker that lists a lot of employers who take on graduates within STEM subjects. Here's a link to Mercedes AMG who take on graduates for their F1 team starting with a salary of £33,000 for mechanical engineers:
    https://www.gradcracker.com/hub/398/mercedes-amg-hpp

might be worth having a look through that site and seeing what interests you, and check out our page on courses, it'll give you a rough idea of what grades we ask for our courses here: https://www.uclan.ac.uk/courses/index.php

Hope this helps, I'm about all morning,

    Josh
