Can you multiply the middle line of the 3x3 identity matrix to make an elementary mat Watch

    What is your question exactly?

    If you're looking for a matrix to multiple by the id. matrix to get THAT one in your OP, then well, it's the identity matrix! The matrix you're looking for is in your own post.

    The question is, is \begin{pmatrix} 1&0&0 \\ 0&0&0 \\ 0&0&1 \end {pmatrix}

    and elementary matrix?

    No because i thought you could multiply the middle row by 0 apparently not....

    Edit: oh so the rule is multiply a row by a non zero constant, ye i got it now thanks a bunch

    Row multiplication is permitted for any nonzero constant.
