Is punching someone ABH or GBH?
& your defence is that victim tried to push you onto road and you just lashed out in order to protect yourself.

Were they injured at all? If not then it's common assault and self-defence.

Not told about any injuries. Just told that woman punches man, who is her husband. Her defence is that he was trying to push her into road and as a result she lashed out and punched him.

I don't think it sounds like it could be GBH unless he got hit by a vehicle. It would take a good bit of punching in self-defence to get GBH, ABH at the most if she hit a weak spot.
