Many job application forms have a 'Have you previously applied to us before?' question.

If you're making an grad scheme or internship application to a bank/consultancy, would you disclose that you have previous applied to them?

Suppose what I'm really asking is,

Is it detrimental to your application if you let them know that you have previous applied (either for the same or different role) and were unsuccessful?

If I use a different email address, they'd be none the wiser, right?

It isnt worth the risk in lying, if you get caught they are well within their rights to withdraw any job offer that has been made.

I dont see why it would be detrimental

Why else would they ask you if you've applied before if your answer to that would have no impact on your current application. That's my thinking at least. Might be paranoid, but I get a feeling it's a slight negative mark against your application, as if to say, 'this guy had a chance already', they might even have a filter system that allows them view the first time applicants before the previous applicants.

I remember a recruiter told me that for reapplicant what they are interested is what have you been doing over the past year to improve your chance and whether there had been any significant improvement to your CV.

Btw, I think when they store your data, they store your name and address (rather than email address) so I don't think is worth the risk.

    I see...

Tbh all I've been doing over the past year is complete my degree.

It's hard to know what I could've done to improve my chance on last year seeing as I got rejected before the interview. Presumably I didn't score high enough on the online test and that was the major factor if not, the sole deciding factor in failing my application because I had an email notification about my application being unsuccessful fairly soon after the test.
