Call to the Bar, Wig & Gown - Buy or Hire?

Looking for feedback from any BPTC grads out there. What did you do for a wig & gown? This particularly applies to those who were not sitting on offers of pupillage. How many took a leap of faith and bought a wig in the hope they would land a pupillage?

I'm inclined to buy one even though I may not get pupillage - not out of some gesture of demonstrating to myself that I have faith in my chances (although I guess that could be a factor) but also just so that I have some physical keepsake from the experience of passing the BPTC and being called. Some may say that's a bit of an expensive souvenir.

Secondly, for those that have (for whatever reason) acquired wigs: Where did you get them from? Are Ede & Ravenscroft worth the extra compared to some online suppliers? Any success on the secondhand market? Does anyone know if they can be adjusted if the size isn't exactly right?
